A Fever You Can’t Sweat Out  11

Posted on February 23rd, 2006, late in the evening. About Music.
Yeah, so I’ve finally got myself a ticket for a gig at long last, and the magical band is…Panic! At The Disco.

I really wanted to go see Fall Out Boy when they came to Cardiff but due to having an exam the next day I couldn’t go. Bit of a shame really. But now they’re just one of those bands that are cool to listen to if you’re a 14 year-old Topshop manakin. So I’m kinda going off them again, even if I have been listening to them for like a year or so and have both their albums etc.

So there was this band I liked off PureVolume and had a few of their songs, but no-one else I knew had even heard of them (the way I like it). So when I finally got hold of their album it was amazing. Love it. And also love the title of one of them - The only difference between martyrdom and suicide is press coverage - think it’s great.

I managed to get hold the album from my flatmate who had it and then found out that this guy I know really likes them and another mate. So for one of them to tell me that they were touring was awesome. Had to get tickets as it was around the Easter holidays so no bloody exams. So I’m now going to see them in Birmingham with a few others and staying up there (turns out it really isn’t as far north as I thought it was lol…). They managed to sell out in Cardiff in 4 minutes! Amazing.

Fall Out Boy are touring again in May time with The Academy Is…as support which would be bloody amazing but course, they never come down as south as me and they’re not coming very west either so I can’t go to that which sucks.

Has been a very long time since I posted on here but just been so busy with uni life and all that. It’s crazy. So I thought I’d put some new words up here really, nothing big.

Made my first proper electronic circuit today (just incase you don’t know and actually care, I’m doing a BEng in Electronic Engineering). Ok, so it was in like “Electronic Applications” which is basically a class for people who have little or no experience with the stuff - like me. But it wasn’t bad, quite fun. Got to use a soldering iron which I haven’t done since like DT in Year 9.

The circuit was pretty simple really, 4 resistors (2 in parallel and 2 in series) and 2 bits of wire which had to be soldered on and then was tested and it managed to work. Apparantly we make an amplifier in a couple of weeks with a 1:10V ratio. Which apparantly means 1V in makes 10V come out or something. Then the final “project” is a battery charger so nothing big but if it helps me pass lol.

Here’s some photos of the masterpieces..

So I was cool and did the “How Chav R U?” test and first question - Have you ever purchased something from Co-op, Iceland or Hyper Value? Think was a bit unfair seeing as I work in a Co-op and now seeing as I’m a student don’t have much choice to where I can shop so frozen food is bought from Iceland and other crap from Tescos next door. Never mind.

Not too bad lol ;)

Week 1  0

So been here 5 days now and it’s been good. Been out every night except for last night due to lack of funds. My course decided to give us a wonderful maths test yesterday even though we’re meant to be in Freshers week and not start until Monday. At least I managed to just scrape through enabling me to avoid “maths surgery” for the time being. Still haven’t had to brave the washing machine just yet. Got enough clothes for that at least. Not sure how my first attempt at washing my clothes will go, but we’ll see…

Well I’m all settled in at Cardiff and it’s amazing. Got here yesterday morning and course the net wouldn’t work so had to wait until today. But went out last night, me and my new found mates walked around most of the city looking for a place to go and ended up in Spoons followed by Subway. Then one person suggested a club called Barfly and it turned out it was an under-18’s night lol. So it was back to the Union for the Fresher’s party. Damn good.

Edit:New, bigger photo - had a bit of a tidy up and changed the sheets lol

So in just over 36 hours I’ll be leaving the country. Technically. Last time I checked Wales is still another country. But anyway, off into the big wide world - but still a student which is great.

University! Bit daunting that I have to cook for myself. I’ve been making the odd few dinners now when parents are away/late but to survive on my skills for the next 3 months should be interesting. Can’t wait though. Kinda the whole reason that I have this beast of a laptop though.

An ode to the PowerBook  0

PowerBook

So I’ve finally got my bright and shiny 12″ PowerBook - is so great :D I’m not used to this amount of speed due to using my dying iMac for what seems like forever.

Took me about an hour to copy all my music, photos, desktop pictures, ical calenders, documents…well you get the idea lol.

Currently it’s special place is my desk in my room. And the desk hasnt been cleared since I finished college about 3 months ago. But as soon as I found this was the best wireless spot, well all the crap found new homes.

Looks like this site might be starting to get a few more (random and crap) posts ;)

Four years on…  0

The anniversary of September 11th is upon us again. A lot seems to be happening in America at the moment. I don’t think they’re quite used to things happening in their own country to this degree. I didn’t realise that they were in the midst of planning a new commercial building for the Ground Zero site. The ‘Freedom Tower’ apparantly, but that’s not due to be finished until 2011.

I’d never realised how many NY firefighters were killed at the World Trade Centre site. Apparantly, 343 died, which is 12% of the total victims. That’s a lot. They’re meant to be putting a memoral up for the victims but that won’t be finished for another 4 years. I mean, 8 years to create a memorial? Take their time.

I’m sure they’re in many people’s prayers and minds today - but for their families and friends, every day.

Right so I saw this film quite awhile ago now, have to say, definitely not the best around. The one-liners for 3 minutes on the tv ads are enough. But 1 1/2 or 2 hours of this and it does start to get slightly boring. It was quite a short film I think but it felt so long. But the graphics were pretty sweet. It weren’t that bad I guess - the kids in there seem to enjoy it.
