Awareness braclets: Just a fashion accessory? 0
Some people are buying big batches and selling them on eBay for like £20 when they only cost £1 and then keeping the profits for themselves. Surely that’s not right. There’s so many people doing this that most stockers have none left for the honest people. It’s crazy.
On the over hand it’s great for the causes. They help raise money and more importantly, awareness. There are so many different types about though. The bands themselves are basically just silicone in a colour of the cause with an inscription on them. Here’s a few of them:
- YELLOW - Originally Livestrong for cancer however there is also Support Our Troops (also in camouflage green).
- BLUE - Anti-Bullying launced by Radio 1 however ironically the “bullies” seem to target the kids wearing them. There are also ones for Anti-Bush and Tsnuami Relief.
- PINK - One of the only colours with just one cause, this is for Breast Cancer.
- RED - HIV/AIDS is the main one however they are also used for Heart-Disease, Vote Bush and Anti-Tobacco.
- WHITE - Big campaign this year about poverty, this band is Make Poverty History however there are also ones for Jesus Loves Me and Right To Life about.
- PURPLE - Cystic Fibrosis and Domestic Violence are represented by this colour.
- ORANGE - This colour is for Self-Harm and Asperger’s
- GREY - Not as well known as the rest but there are two; Diabetes and Brain Cancer
- BLACK & WHITE - Two bands interlinked for Racism In Football
- GREEN - Leukaemia and Organ Donor
- GOLD - Another colour with just one cause, Childhood Cancer
- BLACK - Mourning
Edit: Finally bought myself one of these the other week - a white MAKEPOVERTYHISTORY band. Not one of the silicon ones but a like material one from Oxfam. At least I know the whole pound is going to whoever it goes to. And apparantly these bands are made by the people who need the money..
