A Fever You Can’t Sweat Out  11

Posted on February 23rd, 2006, late in the evening. About Music.
Yeah, so I’ve finally got myself a ticket for a gig at long last, and the magical band is…Panic! At The Disco.

I really wanted to go see Fall Out Boy when they came to Cardiff but due to having an exam the next day I couldn’t go. Bit of a shame really. But now they’re just one of those bands that are cool to listen to if you’re a 14 year-old Topshop manakin. So I’m kinda going off them again, even if I have been listening to them for like a year or so and have both their albums etc.

So there was this band I liked off PureVolume and had a few of their songs, but no-one else I knew had even heard of them (the way I like it). So when I finally got hold of their album it was amazing. Love it. And also love the title of one of them - The only difference between martyrdom and suicide is press coverage - think it’s great.

I managed to get hold the album from my flatmate who had it and then found out that this guy I know really likes them and another mate. So for one of them to tell me that they were touring was awesome. Had to get tickets as it was around the Easter holidays so no bloody exams. So I’m now going to see them in Birmingham with a few others and staying up there (turns out it really isn’t as far north as I thought it was lol…). They managed to sell out in Cardiff in 4 minutes! Amazing.

Fall Out Boy are touring again in May time with The Academy Is…as support which would be bloody amazing but course, they never come down as south as me and they’re not coming very west either so I can’t go to that which sucks.

Live 8 or Live Hate?  9

Posted on June 8th, 2005, early in the evening. About General, Music, Random Stuff.
So the big news lately is the 2005 edition of Live Aid Live 8 in Hyde park on the first weekend of July ready for the G8 summit. Rumors been flying around for ages now…I mean, good old Bob Geldof didn’t have to go as far as saying “Over my f**king dead body” now, he could have just said “No, there isn’t one happening” - guess that’s the Irish for you ;)

The line-up seems pretty cool in Hyde Park, looks as though Bob gave up trying to get decent bands to the venues in Europe though. Poor old Craig David alone in Paris - awww! Meh.

So in random order we have:

Bob Geldof: Funny that really seeing as he is kinda behind most of this. I’m sure we’ll get a nice remminition of “I Hate Mondays” at some point during the gig and lots of his Irish “charm” no doubt.

Snow Patrol: Really looking forward to seeing these people (if I get tickets). Liked their album “Final Straw” and I’m thinking we’ll hear the amazing song “Chocolate”. Love it.

The Cure: Bit of an old school band here (or old people..?). Haven’t really heard much of their stuff really but I have one of their songs, “The Lovecats”. They seem like a bit of an excentric band really but hey, can’t judge them without listening to a decent amount of their stuff, and Bob Geldof isn’t exactly seem very mainstream either.

Velvet Revolver: Ok these people seem very old school, judging from their photo they look like they’re an ’80s band. And I’ve never heard any of their stuff at all…never even heard of them before they were announced for this. Guessing more friends of Bob.

REM: This band I have heard of before - crazy if I hadn’t. Would be great to see these guys live. Love the classics such as “The Great Beyond” and “Man On The Moon” so that would be cool.

Robbie Williams: Quite possibly, only a fool would never have heard of this guy - a real entertainer (poser). Although I’m not really into his stuff, ok, so I have a lot of his songs I wouldn’t mind seeing him live from seeing clips off tv. I’m guessing they’ll be a lot of his big songs like “Angels” and “Let Me Entertain You”.

U2: This band kinda had to be there. They put a lot into the Make Poverty History campaign and I’m thinking Bono and Bob are like that. Would be good to see them perform the greatest song they have made “Greatest Day” but “Vertigo” would be cool too, but apart from that, not really into their stuff too much.

Sting: Hmmm…can’t say I enjoy his stuff really. But again, barely heard any of it, well I can’t even think of one of his songs but I’m sure there are some good ones that I’ve heard but not known. Guess he could be good.

Annie Lennox: Never heard any of this person’s stuff…never heard of this person so um yeah…she seems a bit strange though.

Stereophonnics: Would love to see these people - love their stuff and have like a billion of their albums (ok so maybe not that many but still. I’m sure they’ll play their new song “Dakota” which is pretty amazing but I hope they play “The Bartender And The Thief”.

Coldplay: The almighty Coldplay are playing - doesn’t suprise me really cos Chris Martin is very big up anti-poverty. But they seem a bit depressive to watch. I mean, their “Scientist” song is good and all, but a bit suicidal after a bit.

Snoop Dogg: Hmmmm…well fair enough if he wants to be here. Can’t say I’m into his stuff though but I’m sure out of the 150,000 people there, there’ll be at least 1 fan lol.

Dido: I kinda like her stuff - except I think she gets a bit depressive after awhile too. Guess she’ll probably play that hit..”White Flag” - is pretty good though.

Scissor Sisters: Woo! These people’s music rocks..but the people don’t so much. Saw them on TV at some awards show awhile back and they seem pretty arrogent tbh. But hey, their music is awesome. Most likely they’ll play “Laura”, “Filthy/Gorgeous” and “Take Your Mama Out”. But would be cool to hear “Music Is The Victim”.

Elton John: Well I dunno about this guy, can’t really say I’m a fan but I don’t dislike his stuff. Liking his song with 2Pac at the mo though (Ghetto Gospel). Ah well, shall see.

Album #16: Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge  1

Posted on May 20th, 2005, around evening. About Music, Recommended Albums.

Ok this is bloody amazing! Been non-stop listening to this for like a week and everytime it just gets better and better. I guess most people will have heard the “I’m Not Okay (I Promise)” song. But no way is that the best on the album. I’m loving “Helena” which is on the music channels at the mo but “To The End”, “Give ‘Em Hell, Kid” and “You Know What They Do To Guys Like Us In Prison” (quite possibly one of the longest song titles ever there!) are just as sweet. You should definitely buy/borrow/whatever this album cos, seriously, it’s awesome!

Gigs galore  1

Woo! Can’t wait! ‘A’ in 2 weeks today - bought their new EP at the weekend off the iTunes store. Some pretty good stuff. Back to their old rock stuff as apposed to their poppy stuff from the Hi-Fi Serious album which let them down I think.

Then, to be confirmed, Reel Big Fish on the 1st of June! Even though it says on their website, The Wedge won’t confirm it. Strange people. Just heard the whole “Cheer Up” and I’m definitely impressed as I hadn’t actually heard it all the way through before. Apparantly they’re only doing Portsmouth and Brighton (even though it says Manchester, London and Birmingham on another site :S)

Edit: So seems like The Wedge did confirm RBF after all. Thank god. Only £10! So that makes it 5 hours work for 2 amazing bands. Not bad in my books!

Album #15: Decadence  0

Posted on May 2nd, 2005, late in the morning. About Music, Recommended Albums.

So this is my latest album that I’ve bought. Really loved “Beating Heart Baby” and couldn’t get enough of it so decided to buy their album. I still think that it’s my favourite song (29 plays since I’ve bought the album says iTunes) however “The Razor” is pretty good too. All the songs are different from the rest which in my opinion is a good thing. But if you don’t want a variety then maybe this album’s not your cup of tea… go buy Westlife’s

Album #14: Scissor Sisters  0

Posted on March 31st, 2005, early in the afternoon. About Music, Recommended Albums.

Can’t believe I haven’t “recommended” this self-titled album yet- it’s so cool. Been out ages but never really got into them until like a couple months ago. Their stuffs just pretty different to the norm I guess. Not so keen on “Laura” anymore cos it’s been played so much but some songs that deserve credit are “Music Is The Victim” and “Return To Oz”.

Album #13: Futures  0

It’s been absolutley ages since I’ve “recommended” an album however, after just buying the band’s newest album I think it deserves a mention. Think it’s slightly more darker than ‘Bleed American’ and possibly slightly better. Guess my favourite songs on it are ‘Pain’ and ‘Work’ - some good stuff happening there.

My first new page - a plain old list of my CD collection. Took me awhile to type them all out though, still a bit of tweaking needeed. But hopefully I’ll be able to keep it fairly updated.

Album #12: The Reason [UK]  0

Posted on January 22nd, 2005, around evening. About General, Recommended Albums.

The second album from Hoobastank released in 2003. I’d only ever heard “The Reason” from it but decided to give the rest a chance and turns out I think it’s a really good album. It’s kinda like a more indy version of LostProphets I guess. Favourites are “Escape” and “Just One”. Give it a go.

Album #11: America Town  6

Posted on December 16th, 2004, early in the evening. About General, Recommended Albums.

Ok, it’s been over a month since I’ve done an album but there haven’t really been any that I think are amazing. However, Five For Fighting deserve this next recommendation. They’re not very well known but their musics pretty good stuff. This album I probably have the most music from and got some of the best songs on it. Songs worth getting (downloading, buying, whatever): “Superman” (if you watch Smallville you’ll recognise this - it’s on the soundtrack too); “Easy Tonight” is also extremely good.
